  • “An extraordinary whisky that surpasses my expectations. And really, it's quite unlike any whisky I've ever tasted.”
    Thijs Klaverstijn
    World of Whisky
  • “Deep gold in colour there is a wonderful mix of dried fruit, almonds, and orange zest on the nose, while on the palate there is a lovely balance of fruit cake, baked banana, and sweet toffee.”
    Scottish Field
  • “Long ageing has wrought an alchemical transformation in this 1965 blend – exotic notes of apricot, mango and passionfruit, plus pungent lily and jasmine scents. There’s light vanilla fudge, then darker caramel, a silky texture and a scented finish redolent of Parma Violets and an upmarket perfumier.”
    Richard Woodard
    Decanter Magazine
  • “The palate is a balance of primary tastes – sweet to start, lightly salty middle, with a tart, dry finish. Most unusual.”
    Charlie McLean MBE

Character

Rich notes of marzipan, Dundee cake and leather on the nose followed by pleasing tannin-rich herbal tea on the palate and a cool, minty aftertaste. This is not only one of the world’s first whiskies to be blended at birth, it is also likely to be one of the last, for such practices are now prohibited by the powers that be within Scotch.

Significance

Some whiskies may appear born to be paired together but very few are blended at birth. Yet such is the case with this unusual parcel of grain and malt, born 57 years ago and married –as new make spirit –before aging as a blend for half a lifetime in ex-bourbon American oak. Time has brought the malt and grain components together to create a blend that has matured beautifully as a single spirit.
