The First Drop
The First Drop
A piece of Scottish distilling history, this unctuous, decadent release captures the very first drops of Girvan Single Grain Scotch Whisky to come off the stills at one of Scotland’s largest and most important distilleries. Carrying compelling notes of vanilla, spice, traditional sweet shops and coconut cream.
"Led by pineapple top notes, the nose is juicy and tropical, with ripe peach and a hint of vanilla cream."
Charlie McLean
"This is a blend of grain whiskies from two closed distilleries providing a glimpse into a style of whisky from a bygone age. It has a lovely light gold colour with a hint of orange peel and pear drops on the nose. Sweet barley, bananas and cream with a citrus note coat the palate with a long lingering finish."
James Robertson
"A 58-year-old single grain whisky from the first spirit run at the Girvan distillery in January 1964, this is a highly aromatic, classically sweet grain with hints of White Chocolate Orange and Sugar Puffs. There’s also a clear Bourbon thread: vanilla, black banana and a rich coconut note suggestive of Bounty bars."
Richard Woodard
The Finer Details
It was Charles Gordon himself who first conceived and went on to build the Girvan grain whisky distillery in South Ayrshire throughout the early 1960s. On 8th January 1964, the very first drops of new make spirit were filled into cask and while many millions of litres of spirit have followed over the years, the first casks filled have lain undisturbed - improving with every day. This Girvan Single Grain Scotch Whisky is a piece of Scottish distilling history –the first drops of whisky to have flowed from a distillery that has played a huge role in Scotch whisky production over the last fifty years.
